Add New User to Teams Phone

 

Prerequisites 

License: A new phone user will require Microsoft Teams with Calling Plan Phone Numbers: Check Teams Admin Center for available phone numbers
    • Sort Descending by Assignment Status
 
  • Microsoft allows you to carry an extra 10 phone numbers than you have licenses
If you are out of phone numbers, select + Add to increase your phone numbers
  • To get new service numbers, in the Teams admin center:

  • In the left navigation, go to Voice > Phone numbers, and then select Add.

  • Enter a name for the order and add a description.

  • On the Location and quantity page, complete the following steps:

    • Under Country or region, select a country or region.
    • Under Number type, select the type of service number you want.
    • Under Location, select a location. If you need to create a new location, select Add a location.
    • Under Area code, select an area code.
    • Under Quantity, enter the number of numbers you want for your organization, and then select Next to select your numbers.
  • Select the numbers you want. You have 10 minutes to select your phone numbers and place your order. If you take more than 10 minutes, the phone numbers will be returned to the pool of numbers.
  • When you're ready to place your order, select Place order.
  • Get new service numbers

Add User to Phone System
 

Navigate to Phone Numbers in Teams Admin Center and select an available service number. 
Find an available phone number with a license usage as user: 


With the phone number selected, select Edit


Emergency location should default to the main office but for works working remotely, 
we recommend creating an emergency location for their primary remote address. 
  1. Seach for the username (If you do not see it, make sure the Teams phone license is assigned)

Click Apply


Optional

Update Extension Number


Update the phone number you registered to the user's business phone number in Admin Center. 
If you do not recall the number, view all assigned phone numbers in Manage Users 


From Admin Center, Navigate to Users, select the user and Manage contact information: 


In Office phone, update the phone number and extension: 


Format: +15551113333;ext=5353
No spaces, semicolon separates extension and choose an available extension
in your organization. 

Select Save changes
 

Add User to Queues


Add the user to applicable Call Queues you have set up in Teams Admin Center. 

For Call Queues set up by user, open up the call queue and add the user: 


For Call Queues set up by group (recommended), add the user to the M365 Group assigned in the call queue.
